PR 86 - SWC 2019: Hosszu continues making history; Grinev shines in the 100m free

The sixth and penultimate leg of the 2019 FINA Swimming World Cup in Kazan (RUS), on November 1-3, was highlighted by the excellent performances of the local stars – namely Vladislav Grinev in the men’s 100m free -, and by the three gold medals of Hungarian great Katinka Hosszu, who now has an accumulated total record of 302 individual gold medals in the competition.

PR 85 - SWCup: Six-leg calendar unveiled for 2020

FINA is pleased to announce the competition calendar for the 2020 edition of the FINA Swimming World, comprising six meets from September to November. All three-day legs will take place in 25m-pool, as they will be qualification events for the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), scheduled for Abu Dhabi (UAE) on December 2020.

The first cluster of the 2020 FINA Swimming World Cup will be contested few weeks after the conclusion of the Tokyo Olympic Games, with Singapore hosting the first meet on September 4-6, and Jinan (CHN) staging the second rendezvous on September 10-12.

Sam Ramsamy receives ANOC's "Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award"

FINA Second Vice-President and IOC Honorary Member Sam Ramsamy has been awarded the Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award at the sixth edition of the ANOC (Association of National Olympic Committees) Awards, held in Doha (QAT). 

He received the award for his almost 20 years of campaigning against discrimination in sport as Chairman of the South African Non-Racial Olympic Committee (SANROC). Gunilla Lindberg, ANOC Secretary General and IOC Member, presented the award.

PR 84 – WP Challengers Cup: Singapore wins at home

The team of Singapore won the 2019 edition of the FINA Water Polo Challengers Cup (formerly known as FINA Development Trophy), organised from October 8-13 precisely in Singapore. In the decisive match of the game, the locals were stronger than Austria, managing a 8-5 victory for the gold medal of the men’s tournament. Both teams were leaders of their respective preliminary groups, with Singapore totalling four victories in Group A and Austria also four wins in Group B.

PR 83 - SWC 2019: Morozov (RUS) and Campbell (AUS) in the lead before last cluster

Michelle Coleman (SWE, six medals), Katinka Hosszu and Zsuzsanna Jakabos (both from Hungary, five medals each) were the most prolific athletes of the fifth meet of the FINA Swimming World Cup, staged on October 11-13, 2019 in Berlin (GER). The competition also concluded the second cluster of the series, after the Budapest leg on October 4-6.

PR 82 - Morozov clinches 100th FINA Swimming World Cup gold in Budapest

FINA Swimming World Cup 2019 leader Vladimir Morozov of Russia impressed the crowds at the Duna Arena in Budapest, Hungary, this weekend as the capital was hosting the fourth-of-seven leg of the cicruit from October 4-6.

The Russian ace claimed his 100th World Cup gold medal on Friday (Day 1) in the men's 50m free in 21.50, before bagging another two golds during the meet. On Saturday and Sunday he completed his champion's tally with the 100m free (47.99) and the 50m back (24.70) golds.

PR 81 - FINA Champions Swim Series: 2020 edition in Shenzhen (CHN) and Beijing (CHN)

FINA is pleased to announce that next year’s FINA Champions Swim Series will comprise two legs in January 2020. The first event will take place in Shenzhen (CHN) on January 14-15, while Beijing (CHN) will stage the second meet of the Series on January 18-19. Olympic and World Championships medallists, World Cup stars, World Records holders and top-ranked athletes in the world ranking will be invited to the competition, successfully launched by FINA in 2019.

PR 80- Rasovszky (HUN) and Bruni (ITA) top overall FINA/CNSG Marathon Swim World Series 2019

Kristof Rasovszky of Hungary and Rachele Bruni of Italy are the overall leaders of the FINA/CNSG Marathon Swim World Series 2019 with 4750 points and 5000 points respectively.

PR 79 - Russia revalidates title in Funchal (POR)

The team of Russia was the winner of the 2019 edition of the FINA World Women’s Junior Water Polo Championships, held in Funchal (POR), from September 9-15, after beating the Netherlands by 11-5 in the final of the competition. The Russians managed to revalidate the 2017 title and were victorious in all the six matches of the tournament in Portugal. Before these two consecutive titles, the team of Russia had also won the Championships in 2009.

FINA IN MOURNING – Orban Mendoza (PUR)

FINA learnt with great sadness about the loss of Orban Mendoza, from Puerto Rico, who passed away on September 14, 2019 at the age of 90.

Mr Mendoza was a former FINA Bureau Member, having served our International Federation in this capacity from 2005 to 2013. Throughout his long and successful career, he has been President of the Puerto Rico Swimming Federation from 1976 to 1980, and then President of CCCAN (Central American and Caribbean Swimming Federation) and UANA (Union Americana de Natacion).

For his services to our Sport, he also received the FINA Gold Pin.
