FINA STATEMENT

The FINA Executive met today in Gwangju (KOR) to analyse the situation related with the men’s 400m free victory ceremony and has decided to send a warning letter to Swimming Australia Ltd and to athlete Mack Horton (AUS).

While FINA respects the principle of freedom of speech, it has to be conducted in the right context.

As in all major sports organisations, our athletes and their entourages are aware of their responsibilities to respect FINA regulations and not use FINA events to make personal statements or gestures.

PR 60- MSWS: Rasovszky (HUN) and Bruni (ITA) cruise to gold in Lac St-Jean 10km

After flying directly from the FINA World Championships in Gwangju (KOR), Kristof Rasovszky, 22, of Hungary, and Rachele Bruni, 28, of Italy, won gold in the men’s and women’s open water 10km races of the FINA/CNSG Marathon Swim World Series in Lac St-Jean on Sunday July 21.

Rasovszky clocked the best time in 1h53m28s80, marking his second consecutive victory on the 2019 FINA/CNSG World Series tour, following his triumph in Balatonfured in June, while Bruni was the fastest in 2h03m56s4.

PR 59 – Kazan 2025 and Budapest 2027, hosts of the FINA showcase

Kazan (RUS) and Budapest (HUN) will be the respective organisers of the 2025 and 2027 editions of the FINA World Championships and FINA World Masters Championships, after the announcement by FINA of the winning cities today in Gwangju (KOR).

PR 58 - FINA General Congress in Gwangju (KOR)

With the presence of delegates from 167 National Federations, the FINA General Congress was held today in Gwangju (KOR), where the 18th FINA World Championships is being staged until July 28. The two main points of the Agenda included the approval of the FINA Financial Statements 2017-2018 and the validation of changes in the Constitution, General, Facilities and Anti-Doping Rules.

Two days before the opening of the 18th FINA World Championships in Gwangju (KOR), the FINA Bureau met today and opened by observing a minute of silence in memory of FINA Vice-President Dennis Miller (FIJ), who passed away on June 1, 2019.

PR 56 – Serbia returns to Super Final throne

Team Serbia took its FINA Water Polo World League crown back in Belgrade, Serbia, on Sunday evening as the city was hosting the Super Final from June 18-23, the last stage of the tournament which ran from October 2018 until now.

Playing at home, the Serbians defeated their biggest Balkan opponents, Croatia, by one goal, settling for a final score of 12-11 in the gold match, despite losing the first and third quarters (1-3, 5-2, 1-3, 5-3).

PR 55 – World's eight best teams to vie for Super Final title in Belgrade

Eight of the world's water polo powerhouses are in Belgrade, Serbia, this week to fight for the FINA Water Polo World League Super Final crown, the last stage of the tournament which run from October 2018 until now.

From June 18-23, the best squads from the Intercontinental Cup - Australia, Canada, Japan and Kazakhstan will face the strongest European teams - Croatia, Hungary, Serbia and Spain.

PR 54 – DGP 2019: China rules in Bolzano; Cagnotto successfully comes back

Athletes from China earned five gold medals – out of 10 on offer – in the fifth leg of the 2019 FINA Diving Grand Prix, held in Bolzano (ITA), on June 14-16. The best representatives of the Asian delegation shone in two men’s events, and also won three out of the four women’s finals. The competition was also highlighted by the comeback to FINA competitions of local superstar Tania Cagnotto, silver medallist in the 3m synchro (with Francesca Dallape).

PR 53 – ASWS 2019: Ukraine excels in the Super Final; Canada wins overall Series

The team of Ukraine largely dominated the 2019 FINA Artistic Swimming World Series Super Final, held in Budapest (HUN) from June 14-16, by earning seven gold medals out of the 10 titles at stake. The remaining victories went to Russia (two) and Spain (one). In the final ranking of the World Series, Canada was crowned the federation with the highest number of accumulative points throughout the 2019 edition.

PR 52 - MSWS: Rasovszky wins at home; Cunha gets third 2019 gold

Kristof Rasovszky, from Hungary, and Ana Marcela Cunha, representing Brazil, were the winners of the fourth leg of the 2019 FINA/CNSG Marathon Swim World Series, held today in Lake Balaton (HUN). In home waters, the Magyar star completed the 10km in 1h50m12s7, while the South American ace was the best in the women’s category in 1h58m45s4. With these victories, both swimmers consolidated their lead of this season’s general ranking.
