With two and a half months to go to the kick-off of the brand new FINA “Champions Swim Series”, many swimming stars have already confirmed their participation in the three-leg competition, taking place on April 27-28 in Guangzhou (CHN), May 11-12 in Budapest (HUN) and May 31-June 1 in Indianapolis (USA).

PR 8 - Rostock to welcome 22 nations for first of nine FINA Diving Grand Prix 2019

Rostock in Germany is set to host the first meet of the FINA Diving Grand Prix 2019, a yearly circuit which is composed of nine stops in the five continents, providing the divers with their first international exposure of the year in the lead up to the FINA World Championships 2019 in Gwangju, Korea.

PR 7 - Leading swimmers confirmed for inaugural FINA Marathon Swim World Series 2019 in Doha

The FINA Marathon Swim World Series 2019 is just around the corner with the inaugural leg to be hosted in Doha, Qatar, on Saturday February 16. Entry lists for both the men and women's races includes Olympic and World champions as well as many of the sport's top-ranked athletes.

Russia and Italy maintain lead in women's European prelims

Russia, Italy and the Netherlands dominated their respective games on Tuesday February 12 when the women's Water Polo World League Game Day 9 was played in Ruza (RUS), Mulhouse (FRA) and Budapest (HUN).

Group A's Russia beat the Israeli team 28-5, scoring six goals in the first two and last quarters of the game (6-2, 6-2, 1-0, 6-1). Russia has won all its matches since the beginning of the European qualification phase and has accumulated 17 points.

PR 5 - Italy sets the pace in Santa Fe, Italy sets the pace in Santa Fe, double gold for Argentinian hosts in Rosario

Italy and Argentina were the two big winners at the two inaugural legs of the FINA UltraMarathon Swim Series 2019 that were hosted in Santa Fe and Rosario, Argentina, on February 3 and February 9 respectively.

Italy clearly dominated the first leg in Santa Fe as Francesco Ghettini and Barbara Pozzobon claimed gold in the 15km race, clocking times of 3h19m00s68 and 3h20m41s96 respectively. The men's silver and bronze medals were also secured by Italian swimmers with Simone Ercoli (3h19m01s79) and Edoardo Stochino (3h19m03s94).

PR 4 - WPWL 2019: Hungary and Italy lead after thrilling victories

The Game Day 4 of the European preliminaries of the 2019 FINA Men’s Water Polo World League took place on January 29 in several cities and comprised six matches, with the home teams only winning two games.

In Group A, the Russian squad successfully received Malta and comfortably won by 23-4, the third win of the season. The Russians were always in control of the match (6-1, 5-2, 6-0, 6-1) and had in Ivan Nagaev their most prolific scorer, with seven goals.

PR 3 - Athletes invited and calendar revealed for new top swimming event

FINA is pleased to announce that invitations were sent to National Federations with athletes selected for the first edition of the new FINA event, the “Champions Swim Series”.

45 male swimmers from 15 nations and 37 female competitors from 17 countries were formally invited to take part in the three-leg circuit.

The first event will take place in Guangzhou, China, on April 27-28; Budapest, the Hungarian capital, will follow on May 11-12; and Indianapolis, in the USA, will close this inaugural edition on May 31-June 1. All three meets will be swum in 50m-pool.

PR 2 - WPWL 2019: Russia and Italy take lead of respective group

The FINA Women's Water Polo World League 2019 resumed in Europe with the preliminary phase.

On January 9, Spain defeated Israel 13-6 in Netanya (ISR) (3-1, 3-1, 4-4, 3-0), while the Hungarians narrowly  won 14-13 against the Dutch on Saturday January 12 in The Hague (NED) (4-2, 3-2, 3-2, 0-4) after extra time (4-3).

PR 1 - FINA meets with NFs on Athlete participation in international competitions

FINA’s approach to and interpretation of its rules regarding swimmers and their participation in international competitions was discussed today, at a meeting of FINA’s leadership and a representative selection of national federations, present either in person in Lausanne (SUI) or by videoconference.
