Water Polo Men, Day 4: GRE 13 RSA 5

Greece became the first quarter-finalist after beating South Africa 13-5 in an enthralling match where extra-man was king. The
official statistics may show Greece scoring five from seven but in
actual fact they plundered eight from 11. It’s just the way the official
timing is done. It’s like when a team scores at 21 seconds — one second
over the exclusion period. Coaches count that as an extra-man goal.
It’s subjective, but it’s the focus of water polo.In Greece’s case
it scored five within the 20 seconds, one at 21 seconds, one at 25 and
one at 26. Official statistics claim shots as being on target within the
20-second period so this does not show the true figure.

Water Polo Women: Day 4: HUN 14 GBR 5

Hungary is one win from a half-century of victories at World Championships following its quarterfinal-qualifying 14-5 win over Great Britain. Great Britain, which bows out of the championship, is yet to win a match at this level, sitting alongside Puerto Rico as the only nations yet to win a match.Great Britain is improving with every match and went 4-2 behind in both
the first quarters and then held Hungary to 2-0 in the third. It could
have been 2-1 if Fiona Winstanley–Smith had not been so selfless in
trying to pass to a teammate when she had the goal at her mercy.

Water Polo Women: Day 4: CAN 14 KAZ 8

Canada earned a berth in the quarterfinals with a 14-8 victory over Kazakhstan. Carmen Eggens scored the 600th World Championship goal for Canada when she sent a shot into the bottom right from the top. Anna Turova, in making the score 2-1, landed Kazakhstan’s 300th goal at this level.Canada
had the game to go away with the match and at 7-2 looked likely to do
so. Kazakhstan Captain Assel Jakayeva plundered a goal at centre forward
for 7-3 to arrest the slide. Two Monika Eggens goals just before
halftime had Canada 9-3 at the long break. That gave her four from the
half to double her championship tally.

Orlando Duque: "Why High Diving? Because it's a new challenge"

Orlando Duque, from Colombia, is one of the most well-known high divers in the world. He explained today to the media in Barcelona (ESP), two days before the start of the High Diving competition, for the first time included in the programme of a FINA World Championships, what leads a pool diver like him, to higher heights. “When you dive on a pool, it gets a bit boring after a while. All the pools look the same and you want to look for something different. Then, you start to think on diving a bit higher, then again a bit higher and then you end up doing the 27m-platform. It’s a kind of new challenge. This was my case”, considered Duque, a champion in the Cliff Diving World Series.
