Water Polo Men: Day 3: CRO 18 RSA 0

Croatia outplayed South Africa 18-0 to win Group B with three victories. It was the first time that a zero game was registered but when you put amateur players against Olympic champions, it makes it a hard task.Probably the best shot at a South Africa goal and a movement that had
the large crowd on its feet was when Etienne Le Roux countered and shot
into the outstretched arms of Croatian goalkeeper Marko Bijac. The crowd
was unsated, Le Roux talked to Bijac and they both patted each other on
the shoulder.

Diving, Day 7: Golden treble for He on 3m board

Chong He won the men's 3m springboard crown for the third time in succession, storming through to scatter his rivals and bring China their seventh diving title out of eight so far contested at these FINA World Championships. He looked vulnerable for a while, with a slight blip in the third of the six rounds of dives, but bounced back magnificently to win by more than 36 points after team-mate and 2007 champion Kai Qin had blown his title hopes with a nightmare dive in the third round. Russia's Evgeny Kuznetsov looked as though he might deny the Chinese, just as fellow Russian Ilya Zakharov had done at the 2012 London Olympics. But He had other ideas, with two mighty dives at the end which brought him victory with 544.95 points. Kuznetsov claimed the silver (508.00) and Yahel Castillo gave Mexico their third diving bronze of the championships (498.30).Qin had to settle for fifth (473.25), behind Ukraine's Illya Kvasha (494.10), the 1m silver medallist in Barcelona. Zakharov, who relegated Qin and He to silver and bronze at the London Olympics, failed to qualify for the final after finishing 14th in the semi-final at the Montjuic Municipal Pool. Qin and He, who won the 10m synchro crown ahead of Kuznetsov and Zakharov earlier in the week, have now between them won the world 3m individual crown four times in succession, with He's treble matching the three golds won in the 3m springboard by Phil Boggs of the USA at the first three world championship editions in 1973, 1978 and 1982.

Water Polo Men: Day 3: MNE 23 NZL 1

Montenegro completely outplayed a youthful New Zealand 23-1 for a second win in Group A. The Montenegrins showed the Kiwis just how to play the game at speed and punished poor attacks with vicious counter attacks for easy goals.Later in the game New Zealand tightened up defence somewhat and limited
the potent attack. However, at times, defenders found themselves
stranded and an early tackle on a player was not followed through,
allowing the attacker to emerge with the ball and score.

second place in Group D, leaving the Romanians winless at the end of the

Ianc found himself free at the from, had his first shot spat back at
him by Morita Schenkel and then scored for 7-4 three minutes into the
third period. Andrei Busila scored after the extra-man 20 seconds for
7-5. Paul Schueler responded for 8-5 from the top to close the third.

Water Polo Men: Day 3: ITA 12 KAZ 6

Unbeaten Italy won Group D, turning a 6-2 halftime lead into a 12-6 victory over Kazakhstan, a team it has now beaten seven times on the elite world stage. Five of those appearances Italy won with 13 goals so the average has changed little against a team that went into the match with a win against Romania and a one-goal loss to Germany.Italy held sway in the opening stages and led 4-0, thanks to a pair of
goals by centre forward Matteo Aicardi and master blaster Pietro
Figlioli.

Water Polo Men: Day 3: HUN 9 AUS 9

Officials had to drag out the rule book to decide the
real winner between Hungary and Australia in their 9-9 encounter before
deciding Hungary won second place in Group B on a fourth tie-break.What
a match this was — the 100th World Championship match for each team
—with no team being separated in the four quarters. Probably what did
separate the teams was the extra-man-attack situation where Hungary
converted five from seven. The Aussie Sharks managed three from three,
only the second time this tournament that a team has done 100 percent,
following China’s four from four this morning.

Water Polo Men: Day 3: SRB 16 CHN 9

Serbia walked into the next round with three victories, beating a stubborn China 16-9 in their Group C encounter. While Serbia would be expected to win comfortably, Rick Azevedo, China’s coach from the USA, seems have steeled the team into a more cohesive unit, utilising its tremendous firepower.China worked hard until the end of the game, especially against such
a powerful team like Serbia. China’s brand of water polo is infectious,
as different as it is from Serbia’s.

at 7-7 early in the third quarter. Russia took charge again, then the Dutch levelled at 10-10, 11-11 and finally 12-12 inside the final minute — the final score.

Water Polo Women: Day 3: ESP 20 UZB 4

Spain grabbed second place in Group A with a 20-4 margin over Uzbekistan in the final group match of the women’s championship. As in the day’s opening game, a minute’s silence was observed for the victims of the train crash in the north-western province of Galicia. As if in support of those families left behind, Spanish captain Jennifer Pareja scored the championship’s fastest goal at just 12 seconds when she converted a penalty attempt.

Water Polo Women: Day 3: CHN 13 NZL 5

Zealand’s part it struggled ferociously and resisted stoutly for China
only to breach the defence twice in the first quarter.
