Abu Dhabi: Successful transitions

Three out of the six medallists of the fifth edition of the FINA High Diving World Cup, staged in Abu Dhabi (UAE) on November 9-10, 2018 were former pool divers – with more or less success -, but who have recently decided to compete on higher boards. For Constantin Popovici (ROU, silver among men), Oleksiy Prygorov (UKR, bronze), and Ellie (Eleanor) Smart (USA, third among women), the UAE rendezvous represents a new start in the respective careers, as it brought their first medal in a FINA high diving event.

SWC Tokyo, Day 2: Morozov breaks World Cup Record again, Heemskerk gabs 200m free gold

Hungarian superstar Katinka Hosszu participated in the 400m IM today, November 10, when she grabbed her third gold medal in Tokyo, the second day of the penultimate leg of the FINA Swimming World Cup 2018.

Hosszu, who won the latter race in 4:21.91 said:

“I am really happy with this result. I love this particular race, the 400m IM!”

PR 92 – HD World Cup: Hunt (GBR) and Iffland (AUS) win gold in Abu Dhabi

Gary Hunt (GBR) and Rhiannan Iffland (AUS) were the best at the 2018 FINA High Diving World Cup, organised on November 9-10 in Abu Dhabi (UAE). Hunt earned gold in 431.55 and obtained his third consecutive title in the competition, after previous successes in 2016 and 2017, also in the capital of the United Arab Emirates. Iffland finished the four-dive final in 322.95, getting her first win in the World Cup.

Abu Dhabi, Day 2: Third title for Hunt; Iffland shines among women

Under challenging conditions – strong winds almost compromised the men’s competition – the fifth edition of the FINA High Diving World Cup concluded this Saturday in Abu Dhabi (UAE) and consecrated Gary Hunt (GBR), among men, and Rhiannan Iffland (AUS) in the women’s category. For the British star this was the third consecutive title in the competition, while the Australian – world champion in 2017 – got her first World Cup crown.

Abu Dhabi, Day 1: Flawless Paredes (MEX) brilliantly leads

The final two rounds of the 2018 FINA High Diving World Cup, taking place on November 10 in Abu Dhabi (UAE) will certainly be thrilling, after the preliminaries held today in the capital of UAE. Among men, Jonathan Paredes (MEX) is the provisional leader after the initial two dives, displaying an excellent technique and performing very clean entries in the water. On Day 1, the Mexican star totalled 204.40, and from the 14 scores given by the judges for the two combinations, he had one 8.5, one 10 and all remaining marks between 9.0 and 9.5.

SWC Tokyo, Day 1: World Cup points leader Morozov grabs 2 golds and establishes 2 records

The most noteworthy race today was the women's 100m Individual Medley, because World Cup point ranking leader Sarah Sjostrom (SWE) was beaten Katinka Hosszu (HUN), who follows the Swedish ace by 15 points. In addition, this race was also competed by home nation star Rikako Ikee and Alia Atkinson (JAM), the World Record holder in the 50m breaststroke.

PR 91 - Cunha and Weertman confirm 2018 overall win

Ana Marcela Cunha (BRA), among women, and Ferry Weertman (NED), in the men’s category, confirmed their overall win of the 2018 edition of the FINA/HOSA Marathon Swim World Series, after the conclusion of the eighth and last leg of the circuit, on November 9 in Abu Dhabi (UAE). For the Brazilian star, this is her fourth win in the competition, after previous successes in 2010, 2012 and 2014. For the Dutch, 2016 Olympic champion in Rio, this is the first consecration in the competition.

Wellbrock and Bridi win last stop in Abu Dhabi

Florian Wellbrock (GER) and Arianna Bridi (ITA) were the winners of the eighth and final leg of the FINA/HOSA 10km Marathon Swim World Series, held in Abu Dhabi (UAE) on November 9, 2018. In a very close finish among men, Wellbrock touched in 1h53m00s9, while Bridi managed to get some advantage over the pack in the final metres to earn the gold in 2h00m21s8

PR 90 - HD World Cup: Record of participation in Abu Dhabi (UAE)

A total of 40 athletes (28 men, 12 women), from 20 National Federations, are ready to take part in the fifth edition of the FINA High Diving World Cup, taking place on November 9-10, 2018 in Abu Dhabi (UAE). This is a new record of participation, since this discipline was included in the FINA programme in 2013. Since then, High Diving was present at the 2013, 2015 and 2017 FINA World Championships in Barcelona (ESP), Kazan (RUS) and Budapest (HUN), respectively; moreover, World Cups were successively organised in Kazan (RUS, 2014), Cozumel (MEX, 2015) and Abu Dhabi (2016 and 2017).

Marathon swimmers and high divers share the stage in Abu Dhabi (UAE)

Open water swimmers and high divers were together to mark the opening of the two-day event in Abu Dhabi (UAE), comprising on November 9 the last leg of the FINA/HOSA 10km Marathon Swim World Series and on November 9-10 the FINA High Diving World Cup. From the swimming side, Rachele Bruni, from Italy, and Ana Marcela Cunha, from Brazil, shared some of their feelings in the opening Press Conference, while Steve LoBue (USA) represented the High Diving family competing in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
